MICROSOFT OUTLOOK EXPRESS SETUP

1. Double-click on the icon named Outlook express.

   


2. Once in Outlook Express, look up at the top of your screen for a Tools menu option. 
    
    Left-click once on Tools, then go down to Accounts and left-click again.

   


3. In the accounts screen, left-click once on the Mail tab at the top. 

    *If you have an old ISP email account listed in here that is deactivated, then you can left-click on it
      once and then click remove on the right-hand side of the window. 


        
    
*If you have an old ISP email account listed in here that is still active, then you can set Outlook up 
      so that it will still check your old ISP email account. To do this, double-click on the old ISP account.

       Go to step 4.

     *If you do not have an old ISP email account, skip to step 5 below.


4. Left-click once on the Servers tab at the top. The only setting you need to change is the Outgoing mail
    (SMTP): server name box. Delete whatever is in this box and type in:    mail.dctexas.net   

    (See illustration below) 

    Then left-click once on Apply (bottom-right-hand-corner), then left-click once on OK.

   


5. Now, to add your new DCTexas email account, over on the right side of the screen left-click
    once on Add, then left-click again on Mail.
   
   


6. Type in your real name, however you want it to appear when you send email.

    Click next.

   


7. If it asks "I already have an email address I'd like to use" or  "I'd like to sign up for a new account"
        
    Choose "I already have an email address I'd like to use"

    Type in your full DCTexas email address. (for example someone@dctexas.net)

    Click next.

   


8. Make sure the incoming mail server is set to POP3 server.

      For the incoming mail (POP3) server name enter:   mail.dctexas.net

      For the outgoing mail (SMTP) server name enter:    mail.dctexas.net

 


9. In this box, type in your DCTexas email account name. 
    (This is the entire email address). 

            For example, if your email address was johndoe@dctexas.net, then in this box you 
            would type in:    johndoe@dctexas.net

    Type in your password. (remember, passwords are CaSe-sEnSiTiVe, UPPER and lower
    case matter).

    If you want Outlook to remember your password, then put a check in the Remember password box.

    Click Next.


10. When it says "Congratulations, you have successfully entered all the information required to
      setup your account" 

      Click Finish.


11. Now Click Close on this screen.


12. In the main Outlook Express window,


13. Once in the options screen look at the top for a tab called Connection. 

      Left-click once on this tab. 

      In the Connection screen, left-click once on the Change button.


14. An Internet Properties box should appear. Make sure DCTexas is the only connection under 
      "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings" in the middle of this screen. If there are other
      connections listed here, left-click once on  the unwanted connection and left-click once on
       remove on the right side of the screen.

      Also make sure that "always dial my default connection" is checked and that DCTexas has
     (Default) displayed beside it. If it doesn't say (Default) beside it, left-click once on DCTexas
      and left-click once on Set Default button.

      Click Apply, then OK to close this screen.


15. That's it! You are now ready to send/receive email with Outlook Express.
